It’s #MovieNightFriday and we are planning tonight’s marathon based off Matthew’s favorite movie. He loves Alice in Wonderland (1951) but has yet to see the live action version of Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016).

Now I can totally go off about the history of England but I did that in 101 Dalmatians Movie Night. Instead we are going to go back to our ELA roots and do a comparison. We started with watching the movies (besides the art and cooking), he compared the movies based on these following questions.

• Which version did you like best?
• Why did you like it better?
• Was it set in the same place?
• Did it have the same plot?

Then we read the books (this took us a few weeks) but we returned to the questions.

Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There is the sequel to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Set some six months later than the earlier book, Alice again enters a fantastical world, this time by climbing through a mirror into the world that she can see beyond it. Through the Looking-Glass includes such celebrated verses as Jabberwocky, and The Walrus and the Carpenter, and the episode involving Tweedledum and Tweedledee.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland began as a story told to three little girls in a rowboat, near Oxford. Ten year old Alice Liddell asked to have the story written down and two years later it was published with immediate success. Carroll’s unique play on logic has undoubtedly led to its lasting appeal to adults, while remaining one of the most beloved children’s tales of all time.

We repeated the questions but this time comparing the movies to the books.
