Harry Potter in Minecraft

Matt and I have been rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone lately. I thought, what a fun way to learn about literature within the game so I immediately searched for a Hogwarts world and Harry Potter Addons and Skins. Yes, we did find them.

As you can see there are multiple worlds to be found. We downloaded them all so we can give you a glimpse of the differences

And here is the skin Pack, all can be found on the Minecraft add on app. This is the pocket version on IOS.

Now the cool thing is that recently I’ve become a certified Minecraft Teacher. Cool right? So I’ll be posting my lesson plans both here and on minecraft eduction website. If your interested in taking a course with me, let me know.

Anyway, I got the idea off some other Minecraft educational lesson plans when it came to exploring literature but I wanted to up it. Now Matt is in 1st and going to 2nd but you can use this for any level. This can take as long as you want and can be adjusted for each book.

Lesson Plan:

In this lesson, you will explore the world of Harry Potter by downloading one of the worlds as well as the skin pack. Use the questions below to think about the book and what you imagine what the Harry Potter world would look like.

Fill Hogwarts the way you imagine, both classrooms and students.

Which character would you play as?

Why that character?

Do you think the character is the same as described in the book? Or is it similar to the movie?

Besides Hogwarts, can you find other settings in the world?

What setting would you change?

Not in Minecraft, you can use the books to compare to the movies.

Who are the characters?

What is the plot?

What is the setting?

What is the beginning, middle and end?

There are so many things you can do to keep this going for each book. Perfect to bring Harry Potter to life in your own way. Downloaded the lesson plan here.

Now that the Harry Potter in NYC is open, it’s a great way to make the magic come alive at an inexpensive price (well cheaper then going to universal studios). We went this past weekend and had so much fun. Crome June 2nd they are adding 2 virtual rides.
