Grades 1- 6
For the year your child must 180 days equivalent of attendance and 900 hours accumulative. The subjects that must be taught are
- arithmetic
- reading
- spelling
- writing
- the English language
- geography
- United States history
- New York History
- Consitution
- Patriotism and citizenship
- science
- health education
- alcohol, drug and tobaco misuse
- music
- visual arts
- physical education
- bilingual education and/or English as a second language where the need is indicated. (this is optional)
- Highway and Traffic Safety
- Fire Safety and Prevention
Grades 7 & 8
The units are cumulative requirements for both grades seven and eight.
- English (two units)
- history and geography (two units)
- science (two units)
- mathematics (two units)
- physical education (on a regular basis)
- health education (on a regular basis)
- alcohol, drug and tobacco misuse
- art (one-half unit)
- music (one-half unit)
- practical arts (on a regular basis)
- library skills (on a regular basis)
- Highway and Traffic Safety
- Fire Safety and Prevention
Grades 9- 12
The units required herein are cumulative requirements for grades nine through twelve.
- English (four units)
- social studies (four units)
- one unit of American history
- one-half unit in participation in government
- one-half unit economics
- mathematics (two units)
- science (two units)
- art and/or music (one unit)
- health education (one-half unit)
- alcohol, drug and tobacco misuse
- physical education (two units)
- three units of electives.

Testing and Assessments
Grades 1-3
Write a narrative paragraph
Grades 4- 8
Every other year you will use a standardize test with a narrative in the years between. For example 4.6.8 would be testing and 5 and 7 as narrative or 5 and 7 as testing and 4,6,8 as narrative.
Test must show that the child is above the 33rd percentile or progress within the last year.
Following Tests are accepted:
- Iowa Test of Basic Skills
- the California Achievement Test
- the Stanford Achievement Test
- the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills
- the Metropolitan Achievement Test
- a State Education Department Test
- the Personalized Achievement Summary System (PASS) test
Grades 9-12
Testing will be every year from the following list. Your child must still maintain above the
- Iowa Test of Basic Skills
- the California Achievement Test
- the Stanford Achievement Test
- the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills
- the Metropolitan Achievement Test
- a State Education Department Test
