Mushu’s Breakfast

Ever watched a movie and thought that food looked pretty good even though it’s a cartoon? Come on I know I’m not the only one. I’m not just talking Disney either. What about live action films like Harry Potter? Or the chocolate cake from Matilda? To be honest food isn’t the only reason I watch films. I do like to review them on my other blog at Alex Neznamy. But when I see food in a film I dream about recreating it. It’s something about it where I mentally say, hey I can make that too. Sounds crazy, I know, no worries I admit I am.

Anyway, since you don’t know much about us, Matthew and I, we are major Disney fans. I mean major with a capital M. I had the pleasure of being a cast member at the Disney store in NYC in 2016. Shout out to my 777 family aka my O’hana. But Disney food is so enticing to recreate. Listen this isn’t my first disney dish I’ve recreated. I’ve done Gumbo and Beignets from Princess and the Frog, they grey stuff, and cheese soufflé from Beauty and the Beast and more Disney inspired foods like our veggie pizza for the lion king, Frozen White Hot Chocolate and more. I apologize as some of these recipes haven’t been posted yet but are in the process, so as soon as it’s done I will edit this post and link them in.

Before I talk about more movie foods, I want to mention that you may want to note I am a Disney theorist, which means I’m into the different theories linking the Disney films and I’m in the process of publishing the first volume. It’s been 7 years of working hard on it. It’s my other baby. If you want to know more I’ll be writing more about it over at Alex Neznamy.

Anyway back to food, we also love our copycat recipes from Disney, as well as Chain Establishments like Chipotle, Starbucks and Panera.

The good good thing about Mushu’s breakfast is you’ve probably had it before because it’s simply Sunnyside up Eggs and Bacon in the shape of a smiley face. So what do you think? Doesn’t it look the same?

Okay maybe not exactly as in Mulan, Mushu had it over porridge and did the eggs separately but I don’t like porridge or oatmeal, and doing it one at a time is a waste of Pan and time (if you use the same pan). So as close as we will get. Right? Anyway here’s the recipe for the kids to have fun making their own. We would love to see what they do. Alexandra Neznamy
Ever want to try a food from a movie? I’ve been eyeing this meal from Mulan from so long. Now you can too.
Prep Time 2 mins
Cook Time 5 mins
Total Time 7 mins
Course Breakfast, dinner, lunch
Cuisine American
Servings 1 Person

Equipment

  • 2 pans
  • Spatula
  • Tongs

Ingredients

Bacon

  • 3 slices bacon

Sunnyside up Eggs

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Bacon

  • Start with a larger pan, on a medium heat, place bacon and cook until you like it, if you want it crispy leave it longer. Make sure to flip it using your tongs

Sunnyside Up Eggs

  • Start on a low heat with a small pan, melt your butter in the pan to make sure your eggs won’t stick
  • In a bowl, crack your eggs. You can season now or as they cook, as a preference I do both
  • When the egg white is white and not runny on top you will want to use your spatula and place on plate. Add the bacon below to create your smiley face
